I am an experienced arts leader, strategic thinker and literary curator, with experience in both CEO and Artistic Director roles. I have expertise in the areas of literary programming, arts policy and strategy, human resources and financial success, organisational and business models, collaborations and partnerships, audience development and community engagement.
I have worked in the arts for 30 years, with a focus on festivals, screen and literary sectors, working across small, medium and large organisations, in Australia and internationally.
I have strong strategic skills, and have a particular expertise and interest in developing innovative business models for the arts and new ways to engage audiences.
Most recently, I worked with CreateSA (Arts South Australia) in the Department of Premier and Cabinet to develop a new 10-year cultural policy for South Australia, and supporting the work of the Artists at Work Taskforce and arts legislation with policy and consultation advice.
I have also undertaken strategic and policy work for local governments including the City of Adelaide, City of Port Phillip, Victoria.
I have been an arts and education producer for ABC television, Manager of the Brown’s Mart Community Arts and the Darwin Fringe Festival, the Director of the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival, Program Manager at MRC (now The Mercury), CEO of Writers SA, and am the founder and owner of feminist bookshop and meeting place Goodwood Books.
I have sat on many judging, assessment and arts advisory committees, including Adelaide Writers’ Week and the Australian Short Story Festival, and I have been a judge for fiction and nonfiction categories, as well as fiction convener for the Adelaide Festival Literature Awards. I have been a peer assessor for the Creative Australia , CreateSA, Carclew, and sat on the Australia Council’s Governance Advisory Group.
I was a recipient of an Australia Council for the Arts Artistic Leadership Grant to explore literary communities in Malaysia and Singapore, and was subsequently selected to be part of Creative Australia’s Arts Leaders Program.
